Cecilia Golombek
Human Rights Watch Manager of International Special Events
Human Rights Watch (HRW) defends the rights of people worldwide. The organization investigates abuses, exposes the facts widely, and pressures those with power to respect rights and secure justice. HRW is an independent, international organization that works as part of a vibrant movement to uphold human dignity and advance the cause of human rights for all.
I was the New York based lead for North American and Japanese HRW special events, which included nine Annual Dinners and support for the Annual International Board Meeting. I directed logistical and administrative support to offices across the US in advance of the annual dinners, which in 2012 raised $10M for the organization. I was point of contact for speakers and honorees, as well as on-site support for the West Coast dinners. Due to the unforseen circumstances of hurricane Sandy, I was an integral part of the team that reorganized programming and travel. My direct supervisor was based in London giving me the opportunity to own much of my work. Honorees came from across the globe and I was able to use my Spanish and French language skills to communicate more easily and comfortably with each speaker.
